The Wallace Middle School Rangers conducted an annual rite of passage last week, hosting the ninth annual WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Program for incoming sixth-graders.
More than 50 upperclassmen joined coordinator Christy Henry and co-coordinator Adrienne Simes in providing a program of orientation and welcome to their new classmates. Almost 200 students took part.
As with other such Hays CISD welcome programs, the WEB Program at Wallace is designed to offer new students fun activities to get to know their campus and positive role model older students there.
Advance materials for potential participants explained to parents that the program’s purpose is “to make the transition from elementary school to middle school a positive one.” Coordinator Henry says, “The WEB Program is a great way for our incoming sixth-graders to get to know their new classmates, eighth-grade mentors, and to spend some time at Wallace before the school year starts.”
“Having a strong orientation program contributes to improved attendance and supports academic success,” she adds, praising her eighth-grade WEB leaders as “an outstanding group of students. They did an extraordinary job leading the sixth-graders through the orientation.”
This year’s Ranger WEB leaders included Sophia Abadiano, Caitlyn Adams, Alyssa Aguilar, Michael Alvarado, Hector Barrera, Bryan Bell, Ryan Castillo, Shania Cisneros, Arathan Dean, Katie Elkins, Alyssa Flores, Jose Flores, Jennifer Fohn, Lauren Fowler, Lauren Garner, Mario Garza, Audrey Guerra, Natalie Guerra, Victoria Hart, Brenna Hernandez, Teresa Hernandez, Tiara Hernandez-Hudman, Sierra Herrera, Kayla Johnson, Jasmine Jones, Gunner Lopez and Nito Maldanado.
