Texas’ budget is balanced

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Promises, promises, plenty of clouds but no rain. The last cold front even displayed a layer of clouds that looked as though it could produce a shower of sleet or maybe some snow. Now, that would be a nice Christmas present (the snow, not the sleet).

Speaking of Christmas, you don’t have to watch for school buses for two weeks. Christmas school holidays have begun. So, before I forget; here’s wishing all a very Merry and Blessed Christmas. Thanks to all who contributed to this column through the year. Hope next year more will take time to call me at 512-398-3800 to tell me some news. Thanks also to Sandra.

Funeral services for John Karnstadt were held in St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland with Rev. Roger Hotopp officiating and burial was in the Uhland Live Oak Cemetery on Friday, December 17. John and children Betty Ruth and John Jr. made their home with John senior’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Karnstadt, on a farm near Uhland. In later years after John’s retirement he and his wife, Annie, moved to downtown Uhland where they resided until both had to go to a rehab and nursing home, where Annie and sister, Evelyn still reside. A reception followed the interment services, which was hosted by members of St. John Church.

A “thank you” to the Kyle Garden Club and Mollie Wranitzky for putting Raymond on the “shut-in” list. He enjoyed the cookies, especially the sugar cookies and the peppermint candy. Thanks for your thoughtfulness. We also enjoyed Mollie’s visit.

Herbert and Pauline Schwertfeger of Temple stopped by for a visit with Raymond and Myrtle Heideman on Sunday. They attended St. Paul United Church in Lockhart, and had lunch at Chisholm Trail Barbeque. Lorene Greaf joined them and also stopped to see Chester and Helen Harris.  We’ll miss them on the 23rd, but enjoyed their Christmas visit a little early. No, we did not open our gifts!
