Robert Lynn Koenig, 59, of Kyle passed away early Monday morning, August 9, 2010.
He was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in February 2009. He faced the last stage of his life journey with bravery, grace and an incredibly strong spirit. His love for his family, humor and admiration for his grandchildren helped him endure his difficult challenges. His smiling face will live in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him. Robert was an amazing person, even in his last days seeking out ways to take care of his family after he is gone. His family will always know he loved them.
Robert was born April 30, 1951 to Jack Allen Koenig and Vivian Hicks-Koenig in El Campo, Texas. Father, Jack Koenig and sister, Cheryl Koenig-Byrd, preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by children: Casey Koenig, Bryan (B.J.) Koenig, Zachary Koenig and Mathew Koenig; mother, Vivian Hicks-Koenig; grandchildren, Khia Koenig, Bryan (Bubba) Koenig Jr., Riley Koenig, Dylan Howard and Koenig Grandbaby #5 EDD (estimated date of delivery) March 2, 2011, other relatives and a host of friends.
Robert worked long hard days as a truck driver for Pro-Build, Centex, Bison and Calcasieu Lumber Co. His hobbies included caring for his grandchildren, working as a handyman for his children and traveling to visit extended family in the Ganado and Louise area of Texas. Robert was a Brownsville High School graduate, class of 1969. Robert was under the care of Vista Care Hospice.
Visitation with the family was held on Wednesday, August 11 at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.
