Virginia “Ginny” Puryear

Kyle Chamber of Commerce

by RAY HERNANDEZ

The turkey and all the trimmings have been consumed, the pies and cakes devoured and now we are all wishing we hadn’t eaten that last bite.

Many of us spent the Thanksgiving holiday celebrating with loved ones, watching football, shopping and a host of other activities. Now that this holiday is complete, it is time to get started on the next one. Christmas brings a multitude of emotions to the forefront as we again plan to gather and feast.

As we prepare, we are reminded that not every home will be filled with joy as some homes with young children in our community will not be anticipating Santa to arrive with gifts and cheer. Even though our local economy is strong and is turning around, for some it will not turn around soon enough.

Every year the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce holds a December mixer to gather new, unwrapped gifts so less fortunate children will not be left out this coming season. The gathering will include music, libations, delicious food and an incredible opportunity to network at a beautiful venue while we collect toys for needy children. We have had excellent partners over the many years that we have been holding this event and this year is no different.

April and Jodie of the Winfield Inn called us earlier this year and offered their beautiful facility as the location for this event, providing an enchanting setting for such a worthwhile cause. Seton Medical Center Hays has stepped forward and offered to be the main sponsor for this event.

The food for the evening will be provided by catering director Stacy Ocosta and her professional staff at Carinos Italian in South Park Meadows. We will also be partnering with Hays CISD, Hope and Love 4 Kids, Austin Real Estate Partners and the Texas Adoption Coalition to serve the needy children in Hays County.

Please join the Kyle Area Chamber and all of its partners from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the Winfield Inn, 900 Scott Street in Kyle, so that we may all remember the real reason that we celebrate this coming Christmas season. This event is free and open to the public. We do ask that all attendees bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child, even teenagers. For more information on this event please contact us at [email protected] or 512-268-4220.

Please mark your calendar for the upcoming Kyle Chamber Awards Gala - Texas Soiree. Our annual event recognizes and applauds all of our member businesses, organizations and individuals for the hard work, support and community involvement that all of our members put forth each day. The Awards Gala will be held at Texas Old Town - Sage Hall on Saturday, Jan. 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, an award ceremony and a live and silent auction as we celebrate you, the Simply Charming community of Kyle.

For ticket information and sponsorship opportunities, please visit our website at www.KyleChamber.org.
