Isaac upsets Rose for state representative

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Returned all the gifts that did not fit or you got two of, took the Christmas tree down? Me neither. Everything fit or I could use it and the tree is too pretty not to enjoy a few more days.

Hope everybody’s Christmas was as nice as Ray’s and mine, seems as the family grows larger the more meaningful it becomes. Hope the New Year will bring health, wealth and happiness to all.

We started the New Year with sharing lunch with Adelene Wisian, Clarence Heideman and Leonard and Blanche Kramer. They all, at one time, lived, swam, or hunted on our farm and Adelene says it’s like coming home.

Speaking of coming home, Ernie and Marie Schneider enjoyed having their son Jeffery of Dallas and the grandchildren, Kathryn and Eric of Arkansas for a few days during Christmas. Also joining them was Dwight.

More Christmas news. Erwin and Bobby Jean Hagedorn shared Christmas with their children, Sandra and Steve Jones and children, Matt and Kelley. Also joining them was Jake Hohertz, son Scott and Vikki.

On Dec. 23, a group of football and basketball “boys” gathered at the Hampton Inn in Buda with their former Coach Weldon Moody and his wife of Granbury. Also accompanying the Moodys was their son Rue Allen. Coach Moody coached at Kyle High School from 1949 until 1954. A large crowd attended and enjoyed the reunion.

Cheryl Shelley had more surgery, but has now returned to the rehab center. Cheryl suffered a stroke in November. Our prayers are with and for her. On the not so well list is George Lyons, Sr. We wish him well in our prayers.

Had a call from Gladys Rosenbaum who is having the time of her life at the Park at Beckett Meadows in Austin. She said that she won first place in the door-decorating contest for her nativity scene. She also won first place for her hat decoration (some time ago). She sends greetings and a Happy New Year to all at St. John Lutheran Church (she reads this column to keep up with us). Thanks, Gladys!

Mark your calendar for important meetings of various organizations. The Men’s Fellowship will meet 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 and, at noon, the Women’s Guild meets for a light lunch and planning projects for 2011. These are organizations for St. John Lutheran Church. The congregational meeting will be held on Jan. 16, time and place to be announced.

How about “them Cowboys!” Don’t you know there is a proud Grandmother in Kyle? Quarterback McGee and the boys did a good job.
