The doctors are in...

Janet Lee Simpson, 66, of Kyle, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at her home. Janet was born on December 10, 1943. Her parents, Henry Hartz and Fannie Lee Adams Helf of Austin, preceded her in death.

Bill M. Simpson, her husband of 47 years of Kyle, their daughter, Jenna Lee Simpson of Austin and mother-in-law, Eunice Simpson, survive her. Her sisters, Nancy Winfield of Austin and Judy Barnes of Georgetown, also survive Janet. She had a large extended family…and her beloved cat, Alley.

A graduate of Travis High School, Janet was a natural athlete and enjoyed coaching and playing softball. She loved tennis, golf, fishing and riding horseback. In the early 1960s, Janet worked at the Texas State Comptroller’s office and at the University of Texas Perry Castaneda Library. She then began a career lasting over 25 years as a substitute rural route carrier for the United States Postal Service. In addition, she assisted her husband Bill with the operation of his business, Travis Hair Styling, in the Omni Hotel in downtown Austin. While a post office employee she made dog treat bags at Christmas time for all the dogs on her route and even prepared treats for a donkey or two! Janet loved the outdoors and all animals. In her later years, she became an avid, and quite good, Texas Hold-em poker player.

A memorial service was held on Friday, October 22, at the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin. Contributions may be made to the Austin Humane Society or the charity of your choice in memory of Janet.
