Harris Co. deputy arrested locally

by BOB BARTON

State Representative Patrick Rose has a big lead in campaign contributions in his race for re-election to a fourth legislative term despite an impressive fund raising drive by Republican challenger Jason Isaac, highlighted by a donation of $100,000 by a Dripping Springs neighbor.

Financial reports recently  filed by all candidates seeking election to state or federal office this November show Robert Seale, who owns a $1.4 million Hays County ranch near Dripping Springs, as the donor of a total of $105,535 to Isaac, who is seeking to end Rose’s four-term legislative career. Records at the Federal Election Commission list Seale as the chief executive officer of Austin-based Q2 Software Inc.

Democrat Rose, a Dripping Springs native who moved his law office to San Marcos earlier this year, reported a total of $261,910 raised in the first seven months of the year compared to $169,511 collected by Isaac during the same period. Rose also maintains a big lead in campaign funds on hand, with the report indicating he still had $571,300 in his coffers. Isaac had $149,407, according to his report.

Chairman of the Human Services Committee during the last two legislative sessions, Rose has represented Hays, Caldwell and Blanco counties in the Texas House since 2003.  Isaac won his party’s nomination without an opponent in the March primary; Rose easily turned back a challenge from former Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District president Andrew Backus.
