STAFF REPORT
Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Buda celebrated its 25th anniversary with a worship and holy communion service with a remembrance of St. Elizabeth, their patron saint.
Seminarian Ernie Mac Afee named the church for St. Elizabeth because “Buda” is a variation of the Spanish word “Viuda” for “widow.” St. Elizabeth was a princess and widow who gave all her worldly goods to the poor. The Diocese of West Texas chose the name in 1986.
The church was moved to its present location on FM 967 after its former facility burned to the ground. The church building was expanded in 2000.
The anniversary luncheon was presided over by Fr. Keith Turbeville, assisted by Kyra Klerr-Fitzgerald. Retired Bishop Jim Folts was in attendance as were friars Barry Thiering and Jim Mitchell with their wives.
