Doris S. Munselle, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Kingsland, Texas after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born in Ben Wheeler, Texas to Ben and Bessie Shackelford on August 4, 1932.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ormand and husband Bill (also Marie Ormand, Bill’s mother) of Buda; grandsons Brad of Los Angeles, CA, Blake and wife Alonna of Manchaca and Brent and finance Melissa Yarbrough of Austin. Special friend and “grandson” Josh Searle of Austin. One son, Steve Munselle and wife Julie of Austin, grandsons Steven of Austin, Eric and wife Rebecca of South Carolina (U.S. Navy) and granddaughter April of Austin. Also surviving are two brothers, Joe Shackelford of Bertram, Al and wife Jan of Austin and one sister, Wanda Kramer and husband Leonard of Kingsland along with numerous other family members and friends.
Doris worked at Montgomery Ward as Personnel Director for many years and later worked for the Hays CISD. She loved working with the staff and students. She loved to read, cook, enjoyed helping others and dearly loved her family. Doris was a fun-loving, devoted “Mimi” to her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Wanda Kramer, her sister, for the daily visits and care and all the many things she did for Doris, her beloved sister, throughout this whole 3-year illness. We would like to thank Northwood Health Care Center and the caring staff at Kingsland Hills Care Center.
A memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of Doris will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Driftwood Community Center on FM 150, behind the Driftwood Methodist Church. All who knew Doris are welcome.
