Longer school year? Try wasting fewer school days

When it comes to cheerleading, Hays CISD takes a back seat to no one. A solid camp performance by the Hays High School cheerleaders at Texas A&M University this summer is just the latest evidence of it.


Hays High sponsor Jana King took the combined varsity and junior varsity to summer camp and the results indicate her teams knew exactly what they were doing.


Thirty total students made up the Hays High contingent, 16 of those on the varsity, with two earning “All-American” honors. Audrey Joseph and Kayla Cox took the coveted individual titles, while the team was in the process of earning the “Superior Team” trophy.


The Rebel varsity cheer members include Brianna Abreo, Shelby Bishop, Ashley Chavarria, Kayla Cox, Rebecca Deville, Tori Eathorne, Brooke Fulwiler, Alyssa Gonzales, Audrey Joseph, Mc-Kinna Kinsey, Audrey Messer, Erin O’Black, Celinda Peralez, Allison Rickey, Maci Robles and Payton Spielberger.


Katie Scarlet Sherman is the manager for the team.


The Hays JV cheerleaders scored the “Most Improved” trophy for their level at the camp. Their group includes Laura Albarado, Haley Borthwick, Kasey Borthwick, Marissa Bozell, Sydney Cunningham, Allison Harp, Kelly Kaye, Kassidy Kinsey, Clarissa Martinez, M’Kayla Meyer, Alex Schaubhut, Lauren Trombley and Daniel Uhr.
