STAFF REPORTS

Kyle Elementary School third grade teacher Bertha Endsley recently received a warm “thank you” note from U.S. Army Major Roger Kuykendall, with the ARCENT Support Element in Kabul, Afghanistan. The thanks were for Christmas cards Endsley’s students sent to the overseas unit.

Dear Ms. Endsley and Students,

On behalf of the ARCENT Support Element – Afghanistan, I wanted to say thank you so much for the Christmas cards!  It was really nice, and surprising, to receive so many Christmas cards from children we have never met before.  Well, except for Summer – she’s such a sweetie!

We received the Christmas cards about two days before Christmas here in Kabul, Afghanistan. As I passed the cards out, a smile grew on each soldier’s face which is rare in our office with 17-19 hour workdays, seven days a week. Not to mention most of us are married with children and really miss our families, especially during the holiday season. In my case, I am married with four children ages 11, 10, 4, and 3. You and your wonderful students really demonstrated that the Christmas spirit and American patriotism is still alive and that we are not forgotten here in Afghanistan.

Thank you and your students again for the Christmas cards. Kyle, Texas and Kyle Elementary School will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Roger D. Kuykendall
