Almost 50 people attended the Friends of the Buda Library Annual Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 25. Special guests Kenneth Williams, Buda City Manager, and his wife Cynthia were introduced and Williams gave the keynote speech.
Top library volunteers Bob Banish, Margaret McCaughan, Pat Heard and Vicki Agans and Top Youth Program Volunteers Emily Araco and Minerva Hernandez were given certificates of appreciation and gift cards as well as much applause.
Local business donors honored were: Buda Lions Club, Lehigh Cement, Burdine Johnson Foundation, Tony Kramer of Haitt and Kramer Company, Jay and Catherine Schaefer, Progressive Insurance, and PEC. Mike Jackson of the Buda Lions Club, Archie Lopez of PEC and Tony Kramer of Haitt and Kramer Company were on hand to receive their awards.
Boy Scout Troop #128, Capitol Container Co. and Tru-Lock Self-Storage were honored for all their help with the Friends Book Sale as were Book Sale Chairpersons Lorrie Kopp and Allen Fisher.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a check for $20,000 from Friends Board Chairperson Georgie Cunningham and Friends President Neva Lockett to Buda Librarian Marjorie Martinez.
New Board and Officers were also selected for the Friends. On the Board for 2009 are Georgie Cunningham, Allen Fisher and Lea Ahmed. New Officers are President Eileen Altmiller, Vice-President Todd Ruge, Treasurer Audrey Elder and Secretary Pam Nelson.
