Dia de los Muertos is alive in Kyle

Check it out

by DORIS McWHORTER

Growing up, nothing pleased me more than knowing my class at Matthews Elementary was going to the school library to check out books. There was always that little tingly feeling that I might find a wonderful treasure in a great book. If you live in the Buda community, a wonderful place to find your special “treasure” is the Buda Public Library. Story Time is one of its jewels. Martha Sanders, Youth Programs Coordinator, makes it a joyful time for children as they listen, participate in songs and games, and check out books to take home. This includes toddlers, pre-schoolers, home-schooled students, as well as families. Check our web-site, budalibrary.org/kidscorner, for information on all story times.

What other treasures does the library offer? Michael Carroll, an experienced human resources executive and Buda resident, conducts a free job search program for those looking to improve their resumes and job search skills. These classes, supported by the Buda Library, Friends of the Buda Library and the Tocker Foundation, have seen a number of area people through successful job searches. Classes are every Wednesday in February. Each meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room.

More treasures include free high speed internet, audio books, research databases, magazines/newspapers, a comfortable reading room, and much more.

Want to be a treasure yourself? Volunteer at the library. If you are interested, contact Marjorie Martinez, Library Director, or a member of her staff.

To help those in need, the library has a collection box for non-perishable food items that go to the Food Pantry at Buda UMC.
