State commission shuts down Hays County jail kitchen

by SEAN KIMMONS

After weeks of campaigning, this Saturday will be the last chance for voters to cast a ballot for Kyle’s new mayor and two councilmembers.

The special election comes after a shuffle in the city council that had Mayor Mike Gonzalez and Councilmember Ray Bryant resign to vie for the seat of Pct. 2 Hays County Commissioner.

Councilmembers Lucy Johnson and Michelle López then resigned their seats in hopes of becoming the city’s next mayor.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Kyle City Hall. As of Tuesday, 460 voters had already cast a ballot during early voting, city officials say.

Candidates for all three races:

Mayor

Lucy Johnson

Michelle López

Council Place 5

Jon Claeton

Mike Fulton

Jaime Sanchez

John Simmang
Council Place 6

Rhonda Cox

Russell Huebner
