PEC voting begins today

Online and mail voting in the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) board of directors election begins May 6 and runs through June 12, prior to the PEC annual membership meeting on June 20 in Johnson City.

With one incumbent running unopposed, 10 candidates have filed to seek the remaining two open board seats.

District 7 Director Patrick Cox, who ran last year as a reform candidate for the unexpired term of former Board President W.W. Bud Burnett, beat out 19 other challengers to represent Hays County. Cox did not draw a challenger this year.

Four candidates have filed to seek the Burnet County District 1 seat being vacated by Director Vi Cloud: Mark A. Mayfield, Bill Wilcox, Cristi Clement and Sandra P. "Sandy" Jenkins.

Six candidates filed for the District 6 seat being vacated by Director Val Smith, which represents portions of Blanco, Comal and western Hays County. The District 6 candidates are Theresa Rourke, Larry Landaker, Linda Kaye Rogers, Robbi Boone, David Bethancourt and Daryl Losaw.

Election Services Corporation (ESC), the same independent election services company that ran the 2008 election, will distribute and tabulate ballots. PEC members should begin receiving the ballots shortly after they are mailed out on May 6. The ballots will include lengthy biographies and questionnaires to help voters choose their candidates.

Members may return completed ballots by mail using the included prepaid return envelopes or vote online through the ESC website. Mail-in and online voting must be completed by June 12. Members also can vote in person at the annual membership meeting.
