WIMBERLEY — A dead fox tested positive for rabies last week, according to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

On Jan. 20, a dead fox was found at approximately 9 a.m. outside of a residential home located at 500 block of West Summit Drive in Wimberley.

The fox was later tested by the Department of State Health Services and was found to be positive for rabies.

Those who may have come in physical contact with the animal should call the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit at (512) 393-7896 or the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at (512) 778-6744.

In October 2022, the Sheriff’s Office warned the public through social media that a fox was found in a Woodcreek residence, which is a small community on the outskirts of Wimberley. The fox later tested positive for rabies as well.
