Awards held for Dripping Springs, Wimberley football

The Wimberley Texans, who were state runner-up in Class 4-A Division II, had numerous players named to the 4A District 13 Honors list for 2022.

Author: PHOTO BY WAYLAND D. CLARK Dripping Springs’ senior quarterback Austin Novosad and the city gained national attention during the Tigers’ run for a state championship in football last year. Novosad was named the Offensive MVP for District 26-6A.

The Wimberley Texans, who were state runner-up in Class 4-A Division II, had numerous players named to the 4A District 13 Honors list for 2022.

Running back Johnny Ball, safety Lane Patek and outside tackle Kaden Romo were named MVP.

Sophomore quarterback Cody Stoever was named Newcomer of the Year. First team wide receiver honors went to senior Tru Couch and junior Noah Birdsong.

Senior Kaedon Gonce was named first team center.

First team honors went to defensive linemen Troy Heugly and Hanson Collie and linebackers Brasen Leonard, Jack Riser and Kason Pritchard. Senior Brady Barbee was also named first team on special teams and senior Gage Tumlinson was first team kicker.

Second Team All-District selection honors were tight end Hanson Collie, wide receiver Caden Heatly, offensive lineman Tristan Herring and offensive/defensive lineman Shay Shroyer, inside linebacker Brady Barbee, defensive back Nate Brooks and defensive back Cody Heckel.

Honorable Mention All-District were Caedon Coltharp, Jackson LaBoulieree, Eli Dubuisson, Drew Brasher, Wyatt Franchione, Ty Thames, Owen O’Neal, Zach Patek, Gabe Wray and Dane Hennessee.

In their first year in Class 6-A, the Dripping Springs Tigers (12-2) finished in second place in District 26 behind powerhouse Westlake (14-1). Dripping Springs lost 27-24 to Vandegrift in the UIL 6-A Region IV Quarterfinals. Vandegrift advanced to the Division II State Championship Final and lost 42-17 to DeSoto.

The following are the 2022 Dripping Springs Football All-District 26-6A Awards:

• Offensive MVP Austin Novosad

• First Team Offense – Running back Kade Curry; tight end Boston Papp; wide receivers Kyle Koch and Garon Duncan; center Jackson Key; outside linebackers Reid Robinson and Jacob Ponton

• First Team Defense – Defensive lineman Nathan Prehar; defensive end Tomsen Vickery; linebacker Luca Picucci; and defensive back Greyson Jones

• Second Team Offense – Wide receiver Walker Wright; outside linebackers Macander Evans and Brendan Kelly; and punter Walker Wright

• Second Team Defense – Defensive lineman Elijah Gonzales; defensive end Rio Hay; linebackers Derek Edgar and Bryson Amrine; and defensive back Keller Stafford.
