'What they bring to Dripping Springs is often so fresh it’s still warm from the sun'
DRIPPING SPRINGS — Walking through a local market filled with vendors displaying their prized items including fresh produce, artisan jewelry and homemade soaps is a favorite activity for many families.
In Dripping Springs, the farmers market is held every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Pound House Farmstead at Founders Memorial Park. But due to its popularity, the market will also offer hours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.
This comes on the heels of a Saturday market pilot program from November to December 2022.
“The people asked for it,” said Charlie Reed, farmers market manager. “Dripping Springs is growing, as everyone knows, from a tiny community into a bustling suburb over the last 10 to 15 years. We are getting a lot of commuters who are asking for farmers market options that aren’t able to get it in our normal 3 p.m.-6 p.m. hours. They are sitting on 290 in traffic and they don’t have access to those locally grown items.”
Reed said that while some vendors also sell their products in larger markets in the Austin area, they pride themselves in providing fresh items in Dripping Springs.
“All farmers markets are here to support local producers, but with the region’s growth, ‘local’ has become much harder to support. In Dripping Springs, many of our farmers still come from within the community,” Reed said. “While they drive upwards of an hour to reach the bigger Austin markets, what they bring to Dripping Springs is often so fresh it’s still warm from the sun. Our focus on local truly allows the freshness to shine through its flavor.”
The Dripping Springs Farmers Market has continued to grow over the years with the average number of vendors ranging from 35 to 49. The first Saturday market is slated for March 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
