BUDA — The city of Buda announced Friday, April 7 that longtime Public Works Director Mike Beggs is retiring from his position. His last day will be Thursday, April 13.
During the April 4 city council meeting, Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky and council recognized Beggs for his years of service to the city.
“Through thick and thin, Mike has been the city’s rock. When Ice Storm Mara left broken tree branches and debris across residents’ lawns, he stepped up to lead the cleanup,” City Manager Micah Grau said, adding, “We will miss him and his leadership, especially during tough situations. We are grateful for his service.”
According to the press release by the city, Beggs, who also started as Buda’s emergency management coordinator, began his more than 17-year tenure with the city on Aug. 11, 2005.
During this time, he and his public works crews have seen the city through many infrastructure projects, including those related to the 2014 bonds, the major flood events in Central Texas during 2013 and 2015, Winter Storm Uri of 2021 and, most recently, Ice Storm Mara of 2023.
Beggs will be recognized during a farewell reception in the Multipurpose Room of the Municipal Building from 2-3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Buda residents are invited to join in bidding him farewell as refreshments are served.
