DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Tigers used three pitchers to combine for a no hitter when they hosted Westlake on Tuesday, April 4, earning a 2-1 win.
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Jaxon Conover came in to pitch and, with three pitches, made the final out after the Chaps batter hit a pop up. Conover was credited with the save.
Sophomore starting pitcher Cooper Rummel (2-3) went 4.1 innings to get the win and struck out six batters before being relieved by classmate Taylor Tracey (5-0), who pitched 2.1 innings and struck out five.
“Getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning was huge for Rummel,” head coach Chris Payne said after the win.
Senior first baseman Mason Ashlock led the Tigers offense going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and single. His single, with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, drove in the Tigers’ two runs. Westlake scored its lone run on an error by the Tigers.
“Ashlock’s hit put us on top and was massive for us,” Payne said. “You can never underestimate the energy created by the dugout. They’re the tenth man and they were on another level tonight. We were fortunate to come away with a win against a great Westlake team.”
The Tigers will host Lake Travis at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 14 and Del Valle on Tuesday, April 18. The Tigers' final home game of the regular season is against Anderson at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 28.
