HCSO arrests contractor for felony theft

HAYS COUNTY — The Hays County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a contractor for felony theft. According to the HCSO, the sheriff's office recently investigated a theft case involving a contractor.

The suspect, John Paul Vargas Jr., 45, was arrested for theft of property ($150,000-300,000 with a previous conviction), a first-degree felony offense, as a result of the investigation.

Vargas Jr. was jailed on March 27 and later released on a $75,000 bond.

Vargas Jr. has been a general contractor in the Hays County area and received partial or full payment for work he allegedly never finished.

In a release, the HCSO asked any individual or company that hired Vargas Jr. or any of his companies for general construction and have uncompleted work on no worked performed at all to file a report with the sheriff’s office or local law enforcement agency.
