WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley High School UIL Academic Team was the runner-up in the overall school sweepstakes at the 4A-Region IV Academic Meet, held on April 21-22 at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi.
Three teams and four individual qualifiers are advancing to the state contest. The three advancing teams were Current Issues and Events (scoring team members were Alex Caldwell, Josh Bober, John Moore and Hyatt Romp), Science (scoring team members were Jacob Mantsch, Kaitlyn Marinos, Kayla Pierce and Tyler Youens) and Social Studies (scoring team members were Trinity Rivera, Samuel Crow, Chloe Thompson and Rachel Caldwell).
Individual event qualifiers (top-three in their event at regionals) were Josh Bober, who won Informative Speaking, Azula Hunter-Thiam, who won Prose Interpretation, Chloe Swindle, who finished second in Poetry Interpretation, and Peyton Shaw, who was third in Feature Writing.
The Academic and Speech State Meet will be held on the University of Texas-Austin campus Wednesday, May 17- Thursday, May 18.
