Judge Ruben Becerra stands with Linda Coker, the chair of the Hays County Historical Commission (HCHC), on July 11 with a distinguished award from the Texas Historical Commission. Commissioners Michelle Cohen, Debbie Ingalsbe, Lon A. Shell and Walt Smith are pictured along with members of the HCHC. The annual award provides recognition for the HCHC for preserving history and creating programs that promote and educate the community on Texas history. The creation of historical markers, celebration of holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, forming exhibitions, surveys of graves and a continued effort to restore the Hays County Jail were some of the HCHC’s most notable achievements in 2022.
