HAYS COUNTY — The Greater Austin YMCA has named Dione Booker as the new senior executive director, in which she will be overseeing the Hays Communities and Springs Family YMCAs.
“I’m truly honored and blessed for this opportunity the Y has given me,” Booker said. “Not only do I have a job that I love, but a career that gives me purpose and the opportunity to help people find and power their purpose in life to create positive change in our community.”
Booker has a master’s degree in exercise physiology and started her career as a health and wellness director at the Woodlands YMCA. Since 2002, she has served in executive roles for the YMCA of Greater Houston and has held management positions with Gold’s Gym and The Fitness Project.
“Dione Booker is the perfect fit to lead the Hays Communities and Springs Family YMCAs,” said Kathy Kuras, Greater Austin Y president and CEO. “She brings a unique vantage point from her experience in Houston, ensuring the Austin Y keeps a focus on accessibility and equity in such a rapidly growing area. Dione is a natural leader and team builder who creates an atmosphere where everyone is fully engaged.”
Booker will be at the Hays Communities YMCA Back to School Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 to meet community members.
The Hays Communities Back to School Fun Day is a free event where YMCA members and neighbors can enjoy indoor/outdoor activities, such as group exercise classes, pickleball, cooking classes to promote healthy lunches and snacks, poolside activities, an outdoor water slide, meet with personal trainers, refreshments and participate in a school supply drive.
