HAYS COUNTY — The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Hays County announced it will be participating in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The League will also be registering voters throughout the month and will be available to assist voters who wish to register or update their registration if they have moved. Oct. 10 is the deadline to register or update your registration.

“Every eligible American deserves the chance to participate in this year’s pivotal elections," said Hays County LWV President Marilyn Minnaar. “Voter registration is the first step to ensuring your voice is heard. We want to make sure every eligible resident in Hays County who wants the opportunity to vote on Election Day is registered by Oct. 10.”

Upcoming events include the following:

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 19: LWV has been invited by the Honors College at Texas State University to staff a table outside Lampasas Hall.

• 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on Sept. 19: Hays County LWV will staff a table at the Kyle Library.

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 19: The organization will staff a voter registration table at the Buda Library.

• 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 19 at 4002 E. U.S. 290 at Sunset Canyon Drive in Dripping Springs: Hays County LWV will staff a table for the Sententia Ver Cultural Hub’s National Voter Registration Day and the 18th HAAM Benefit Day.

Each Saturday in September and October, the Hays County LWV will be at the San Marcos Farmers Market. On Sept. 23, the LWV also will be at the Mermaid Festival in San Marcos.

Now in its ninth year, National Voter Registration Day has been an annual nonpartisan campaign to register hundreds of thousands of voters in communities and online. Embraced by a host of celebrities, bipartisan elected officials and organizations, NVRD leverages the collective impact of thousands of community partners, including hundreds of League of Women Voters groups nationwide every year, according to a news release.

The organization will also be hosting virtual forums at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12 for San Marcos City Council and at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 for Woodcreek City Council.

“The League of Women Voters of Hays County empowers voters through education, registration and get-out-the-vote activities in every election,” Minnaar said. “We host candidate and issue forums and registration drives while also providing trusted and timely elections information on vote411.org. We believe our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard.”
