DRIPPING SPRINGS — Dripping Springs High School seniors Luke Bohan and William Johns have been named National Merit Semifinalists based on their performances on the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
The 16,000 semifinalists represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Approximately 95% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing in February 2024 and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.
In August, Bohan and Johns received the National Rural and Small Town Award from the College Board National Recognition Program for maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA and performing well on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 and/or AP Exams.
Bohan is on the Dripping Springs Tigers soccer team and plans to major in biochemistry and become a doctor; Johns plays for the Tiger tennis team and hopes to study either mechanical engineering or pre-med at Brigham Young University.
To become a National Merit Finalist, students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm their earlier performance on the qualifying test.
