Dear Editor:
The USA. A Global leader. An example to imitate. Or is it?
Certainly NOT invading our Capitol with angry mobs urged on by a defeated President is an example of who we are as a Country — as a Nation. Certainly not putting obstacles in the Rio Grande River to impale those fleeing from tyranny in hope of finding freedom and solace is not an example of who we are.
After defeating Japan in WWII we actually helped rebuild that country.
After defeating Germany in WWII we flew in food to the defeated East Berlin.
Yes, we did go out on a limb regarding Iraq but we are now helping them get back on their feet, minus a dictator and tribal warfare.
Yes, we did a lot of damage in Viet Nam but now this country is thriving without the threat of Communism.
Our own elderly are much better taken care of due to government Welfare (Medicare) and Social Security.
There are those among us who volunteer with Food Pantries, driving neighbors to hospital appointments and contributing via monthly bank withdrawals to all sorts of needy causes.
The majority of Americans pay taxes, vote for the person, or persons, they feel would be most likely to preserve our welfare by promoting schools, parks, city transportation, proper administration of water, sewage, energy, police protection and roads.
Just an aside, we DO have a problem with a certain branch of the police, namely Immigration Customs Enforcement, known as ICE.
Put yourself in the place of an immigrant or immigrant family who gets their door busted down in the middle of the night. This is NOT part of the “American Dream” and it must be stopped!
One or two officers knocking on a door in daylight, showing their credentials and politely asking questions, would be scary enough.
A mailed summons to appear at a certain office at a certain time with their credentials should be the first inquiry, followed by a daytime visit if the summons is not acknowledged.
We —- AMERICA —-- are supposedly a Country of kindness, a Global Leader, a Country to imitate.
Busting into a person’s abode in the middle of the night, parading with Nazi symbols, smashing the windows of our Nation’s Capitol and smearing feces in its corridors, then voting for a man who encourages such activity, is NOT what we are about. Or is it?
