Kyle Fire Department welcomes new trucks

Author: PHOTO BY URSULA ROGERS A young firefighter helps to push one of Kyle Fire Department’s new fire engines as part of the Push In Ceremony held on Saturday, Nov. 11.

KFD welcomed three new fire engines and one water tender (a vehicle that can bring water, foam or dry chemicals to aid in combating a fire). The push in ceremony dates to when trucks were pulled by horses. After a fire, they would hose the pumps down, push them into the bay, then hose down the horses to cool them down. Today, fire engines are used rather than horses, but the tradition lives on.
