XCharge North America, an original equipment manufacturer specializing in innovating Level-3 EV chargers and energy storage devices, celebrated the opening of its 3,500-square-foot facility in Kyle.
“I'm particularly proud of this development because there's a lot of demand for industrial space in the region,” said city of Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell during the ribbon cutting on Thursday, Nov. 16, which was hosted by the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Oftentimes, what happens is developers come build massive, 200,000-square-foot boxes and that's good for some of the big companies," Mitchell explained. "But this project is great because it has a smaller footprint. It allows for smaller and medium size growing companies and startups to have great, Class A space.”
Mitchell said the electrification of the automotive industry is underway and it’s going to take innovative companies to help propel the community into the next generation of vehicular travel, in order to save the planet.
“So, we couldn't be happier that you guys are here,” Mitchell added. “You're doing amazing things.”
Aatish Patel, president and co-founder of XCharge NA, said in the beginning there were challenges to find the right space, but they ultimately found the property that fit their needs as a growing company that gave them a platform to grow.
“I want to thank the city of Kyle for welcoming us with open arms and really allowing us to navigate and work in the ways that we do and helping us with this process,” Patel added. “Hays County has been awesome to work with and we're very much looking forward to working with you all as we continue to develop in this community.”
Patel said it wasn’t necessarily their goal to sell the most chargers, make the most money or control the charging regime.
“Our goal is to promote the adoption of electric vehicle transportation and clean energy as a whole,” Patel said. “That's what we believe in and that's what we're here to support.”
