Tigers season ends in regional finals at Alamodome

SAN ANTONIO — The Dripping Springs Tigers varsity football team advanced to the UIL 6A D2 Region 4 Finals, which took place at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 2, against the Steele High School Knights. While the Tigers made a tremendous fight, they fell short 21-28.

SAN ANTONIO — The Dripping Springs Tigers varsity football team advanced to the UIL 6A D2 Region 4 Finals, which took place at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 2, against the Steele High School Knights. While the Tigers made a tremendous fight, they fell short 21-28.

Early in the first quarter, the Knights scored the first touchdown of the game on a 77-yard pass to junior Jalen Cooper. With only three minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Tigers scored on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Jack Williams to Maddox Bloomgren, leaving the score tied 7-7.

The second quarter started and within four minutes, the Knights scored on a 2-yard run, making the score Knights 14, Tigers 7. After several three and out series by both teams, the Knights scored on a 3-yard run and the score was Tigers 7, Knights 21.

After the kickoff, the Tigers went back on offense and Williams found wide receiver Cooper Reid for a catch and a few plays later, wide receiver Kyle Koch made another catch. Tiger Jack Tyndall ended the scoring drive on a 2-yard run and the second quarter ended with the score, Tigers 14, Knights 21.

The third quarter started with the Knights kicking off to the Tigers and, after great defense by both teams, the Tigers scored on a 32-yard pass from Williams to Koch, tying up the score 21-21.

In the fourth quarter, the Knights scored on a 3-yard pass and they went up by seven points. The Tigers could not make a first down and punted the ball back to the Knights. With four minutes remaining on the clock, the Knights went for a field goal and missed it wide right. The Tigers took possession of the ball on their own 26 yard line; Williams and the offense were able to quickly move the ball and landed on the Knights at the 11 yard line. With two minutes remaining in the game, the Tiger fans were feeling another comeback, but the Knights defense had Williams scrambling and the ball was intercepted with one minute left.

The Knights took possession of the ball and threw for a first down and the clocked ended with the final score Tigers 21, Knights 28. The Knights are the Region 4 Champions and will face Region 3 Champions, Summer Creek High School, at 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 at McLane Stadium.

The Tigers ended the season with a record of 11-3. According to MaxPreps. com, over the past five years, the Tigers have accumulated a record of 51 wins and 12 losses.
