Texans Baseball tops Tigers with 3 runs in 9th inning WIMBERLEY — Wimberley traveled to face Dripping Springs in a scrimmage baseball game on Monday, Feb. 12 and went home with a 5-2 victory after shutting out the Tigers in six straight innings.

Texans Baseball tops Tigers with 3 runs in 9th inning


WIMBERLEY — Wimberley traveled to face Dripping Springs in a scrimmage baseball game on Monday, Feb. 12 and went home with a 5-2 victory after shutting out the Tigers in six straight innings.

Dripping Springs held on to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Texans tied the game with a run in the sixth, another in the seventh and scored three runs in the top of the ninth for the win.

The Tigers will host Austin High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 and begin district play at home against Bowie at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 11.

Wimberley will host Davenport on Tuesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. and has games on March 7 against Steele at 9 a.m. and against Floresville at 1:30 p.m. On March 8, the Texans will go up against Godley at 3:45 p.m. and on March 9, they will face Stephenville at 9 a.m. and Crockett at 6 p.m. All games will be part of the Texan Classic Tournament at the Wimberley ISD Sports Complex.

Four Dripping Springs swimmers qualify for UIL State

DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs Tigers Aquatics team of Macie McCurry, Anna Hoskovec, Laurel Hoskovec and Izzy Boldrick will each compete as ‘call ups’ at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet held at the University of Texas Swim Center in Austin on Friday, Feb. 23 with 6A prelims at 3 p.m. and finals on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m.

Anna Hoskovec broke the school record in the 500 Freestyle and earned a ‘call up’ spot in the event at State. McCurry who earned a bronze at regionals, will compete in the 50-yard Freestyle and be joined by her teammates in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and 400 yard Freestyle Relay. Tickets are available online only at www.uiltexas.org.

Tigers basketball season comes to end

DRIPPING SPRINGS —  The Dripping Springs Tigers boys basketball team played its last game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 13, against the Austin High School Maroons.

The Tigers led the entire game and the final score was Tigers 60, Maroons 44.

Before the game started, the fans and student body honored the seniors with a framed portrait and a large round of applause. Their parents were also recognized and they were presented with flowers and balloons.

The Tigers finished in fifth place in a very tough UIL District 26. The Tigers season record was 18-15 and their district record was 8-8.

Lady Texans Basketball season ends

WIMBERLEY — It was a busy week for the Wimberley’s girls basketball team, which traveled to Seguin on Monday, Feb. 12 for a 4A Region 4 Bi-District playoff game against La Vernia — the Lady Texans won in a close 46-43 game.

Wimberley (23-16), who finished third in District 27, then traveled to Smithville on Thursday, Feb. 15 to face District 25 winner Navasota (32-3) in the Area round of playoffs and nearly upset the Rattlers but fell short ending the Lady Texans season.

“[We] played a tough game,” head coach Caleb Hall said, “and lost at the wire.”

Wimberley led 11-10 in the first period and out-scored Navasota in the third and final period, but couldn’t make up a 19-11 run by the Rattlers in the second period, losing 50-46. Raygan Pack led the Texans with 10 points, Laney Hennessee 8, Baylee Gold and Campbell Woodward 7 each, Addie Laney 6, Lily Dela Rosa and Jade Duncan 4 each.




Wimberley finish at UIL State Swim Meet

WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley Texans swim team had four girls qualify to compete at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet last weekend in San Antonio.

Cassidy Davis competed in the 200-yard Individual Medley, finishing in 10th place overall with a time of 2:25.84 and finished 14th overall in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.37. Davis joined teammates Brooklyn Bursiel, Gracie Colyer and Charlotte Woodward to compete in the 200-yard Medley Relay, finishing 14th overall with a 2:12.44. The swim team is coached by head coach Jill Johnson and assistant coach Mercedes Salinas. This marks the first year the UIL has split the Class 4A and below from Class 5A at the State Meet.
