BUDA — Geoff Seibel and incumbent Courtney Runkle won the seats for Hays CISD Board of Trustees At-Large and District 3 positions, respectively, during the May 4 election, according to unofficial polling results.
Vying for the at-large position was Katy Armstrong, with 41.90% of the votes (908), Geoff Seibel with 54.87% (1,189) and Jay Adcock, with 3.23% (70). Runkle led the District 3 election with 60.81% (211) of the votes, while Ray Chávez had 39.19% (136).
Runkle has held the Single-Member District 3 seat since her election in May 2021. She is a Hays County resident and a mother of two children, one a recent Johnson High School graduate and an eighth grader at McCormick Middle School.
Previously, at the Hays CISD candidate forum on March 6, Runkle noted that anyone who has known her knows that she is relentless and will always hold both herself and others accountable. According to her biography, she has also volunteered in various capacities for both her community and the school district, including PTAs, leadership teams, booster clubs and more.
“I am incredibly thankful to the voters in District 3 of Hays CISD for re-electing me as their trustee on the Hays CISD School Board for another three years. Over the past three years, I have received a warm embrace from the community and am deeply grateful for it. I am committed to working even harder to ensure that Hays CISD continues to be the best place for your children's education and the most employee-friendly district. I understand the challenges ahead and am ready to face them with your support. Together, we can achieve great things,” concluded Runkle.
Seibel is a father of two children and the husband of the assistant principal at Kyle Elementary School. Although he is new to the board, he stressed at the previous candidate forum that his knowledge of ongoing happenings within both the district and the school board would give him the ability to “hit the ground running.”

“When the results were released, it was simply emotional, hugging my wife and daughters. They wanted [the win] for me so badly because they saw how much work and time we had devoted to the campaign. So it was a mixture of joy, relief and excitement at that moment,” explained Seibel. “I am excited to do the work for our district, our community, our staff and our students to continue making our district the best that we can make it. I want to thank Katy Armstrong for her campaign, as we both were focused on our strengths and what we could bring to the board. It was a positive campaign for each of us and now I am simply ready for all of us to work together to do what is best for all of our students.”
