Dreams of playing Division I-level basketball will become a reality next winter for Hays High alumna Gabby Bosquez.
Earlier this month, Bosquez signed to play with the Arizona State University women's basketball team in Tempe, Arizona, transferring from Blinn College where she had played in the 2020 season. The ASU women's basketball team competes in the Pac-12 Conference and finished the regular season ranked in the Top 25 of the AP Poll.
Bosquez, a 2018 Hays High graduate, was an integral cog in helping Blinn's women's basketball team reach the
Regional Semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament in late February. Blinn finished 2020 ranked No. 24 in the NJCAA national rankings. During her one season at Blinn, Bosquez averaged 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest. In addition, Bosquez led Blinn with 99 assists and had 51
steals, according to the Blinn Athletics website.
Prior to playing at Blinn, Bosquez competed in basketball at St. Edward's University in Austin where she played
in 18 games and scored 55 total points.
While at Hays, Bosquez, a multi-sport athlete, competed and excelled in cross country, girls basketball and
track and field. Over the course of two seasons running cross country, Bosquez excelled and competed at the UIL state meet in 2016 and 2017. Bosquez also reached the UIL state track and field meet by running in the 800-meter run in 2018. On the hardwood, Bosquez, a four-year starter on varsity, earned numerous accolades including 25-6A Co-District MVP honors in 2018.
In a statement on the Arizona State athletics website, Bosquez said she chose ASU due to its balance between academics and athletics.
"Not only do I feel I will develop into a better player on the court but I will also have the opportunity to grow and mature throughout my life," Bosquez said in a statement. “Playing with and against the best has always been a dream and I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to be a part of ASU."
