HAYS COUNTY — When her daughter turned 13, Dawn Albertson knew that she wanted to make her birthday special.
After she researched and designed a unique slumber party that involved individualized tents for her daughter, Albertson knew that she wanted to share that with other families with her own business: Midnight Mingle. She started the venture in February, as, she stated, it was too great of an opportunity to miss.
“There's just something very magical that happens when a child walks into a room and it's completely dedicated to them — their likes, their wants,” Albertson said. “To see the expression on these kids' faces when they walk into something like that, it's priceless.”
The name, Midnight Mingle, comes from the bonding and conversations that take place in the middle of the night during sleepovers, Albertson explained.
“What I've learned with sleepovers from myself and with my daughter is all the good, juicy gossip starts at midnight. Like they just start to settle down and they start bonding,” she said. “And they create those core memories through that time.”

Albertson said that currently, she has three setups that parents — and their children — can choose from: Taylor Swift (purple), Rose Gold and Disco Cowgirl. However, she said that they are customizable and that she is even working on designing some themes that are geared more toward boys, including gaming and sports.
“There's a section in there that they can give me an idea of what their child is looking for [if it’s] something that we don't have listed,” she said. “We can customize to whatever the client, which is usually the child, wants.”
The benefit of parents signing up for Midnight Mingle to come in and set up a luxury sleepover for their children is convenience, Albertson said.
“They don't have to do all the legwork. It's a lot of work. It's very, very time consuming. And so parents that want to have something like this, they go on my Instagram and if they see something they like, they just have to tell me how many kids, the date and then I set up a time to come set everything up and then set a time for the next day to come tear it all down,” she said. “It's really about convenience. Honestly, there's a lot of parents out there that wouldn't want to do a setup like that. It's costly to buy all the tents and everything that you need to set it up. So, sometimes it's just easier to rent it out; you don't have to buy it.”
The cost minimum is $300 for a four-tent setup. A standard sleepover party for four people includes tents, decorative pillows, throw blankets, an air bed, bed tray, LED lamp and themed decor.
While sleepovers are tailored more toward children, Albertson said that what she offers through Midnight Mingle can be for everyone ranging from mothers who need a getaway to team building experiences.
The service area for Midnight Mingle is large. This includes, but is not limited to, Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, Wimberley, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Buda and Kyle.
“We’ll go anywhere,” Albertson said.
