DRIPPING SPRINGS — Members of Dripping Springs City Council were appointed or reappointed to areas of oversight and committees at the June 4 meeting.

An area of oversight is more than just a city council member being appointed and attending meetings, according to Mayor Bill Foulds.

“It’s also keeping me, and the rest of council, informed as to what’s going on at these groups,” he said. “Some different things happened over the course of the year that I felt like [that] maybe it’s my fault I wasn’t made aware of. I would like to make sure that whomever we appoint over these positions are going to these meetings and providing valuable input to me, at a minimum, [and] addressing staff to make sure they are informing the rest of council at meetings.”

The following appointments were made to the council areas of oversight:

• Parks: Taline Manassian; Travis Crow as backup if needed (Sherrie Parks: Dripping Springs Ranch Park and Farmers Market)

• Public Health and Safety: Geoffrey Tahuahua; Wade King as backup if needed

• Utilities: Mayor Bill Foulds

• Finance: Taline Manassian

• Transportation and Streets: Travis Crow as chair; Geoffrey Tahuahua

• Community Events and Services: Sherrie Parks

The following appointments were made to committees:

• Economic Development Committee: Sherrie Parks; Taline Manassian as backup if needed

• Transportation Committee: Travis Crow as chair; Geoffrey Tahuahua on committee

• Farmers Market Committee: Sherrie Parks; Taline Manassian as backup if needed

• Emergency Management Committee: Geoffrey Tahuahua

Additionally, Hays County is moving forward with the creation of a Mental Health Coordinating Committee (MHCC) and commissioner Walt Smith asked that the city of Dripping Springs recommend a representation to serve on the committee. The first meeting will be held at noon on June 12 at the Public Safety Building in San Marcos.

Mayor Foulds said that he will be attending the first meeting virtually and then following that, at the next Dripping Springs City Council meeting on June 18, there will be further discussion on appointing a representative for the MHCC.
