DRIPPING SPRINGS – On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the Dripping Springs High School Tigers Volleyball team hosted the Hendrickson High School Hawks. This was the Tigers' first home game of the season and the team swept the Hawks 3-0 before a large home crowd.
Last weekend, the Tigers traveled to the Pearland, Texas for the John Turner Classic Volleyball Tournament. On Saturday, the Tigers came home with the championship trophy. In the championship game, the Tigers defeated Argyle High School (2-1). Henley Anderson was named tournament Most Valuable Player, Callie Krueger was named Outstanding Defensive Player and Christa Wilburn was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Tigers are currently on a hot streak, with a 12-0 record. The team’s next home game will be at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 28th, when it host Casteel High School from Queen Creek, Arizona.
Last season, the Tigers were defeated in the Regional finals. They finished the season with a record of 48-7. This past summer, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) changed the volleyball playoff format and the top four teams from the district will advance to the playoffs. The two schools reporting the highest student enrollment will go to Division 1 and the other two schools will go to Division 2 in the playoff rounds.
