Entering the contest with a 4-2 district record, the Dripping Springs High School Tigers hosted the McNeil High School Mavericks on Nov. 15 for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 4 bi-district playoff game. The final score was Tigers 49, Mavericks 14.
The Tigers scored first on an 18-yard pass from quarterback Maddox Maher to wide receiver Merrick Bloomgren. The point after touchdown (PAT) was good and the first quarter ended with the score Tigers 7, Mavericks 0.
In the second quarter, the Mavericks scored first on a 15-yard pass and the extra point was good. The Tigers scored again on a 24-yard pass from Maher to Nick Tyndall and another touchdown pass to Cooper Reid for 34-yards. The first half ended with a score Tigers 21, Mavericks 7.
After a halftime performance by the award-winning Tigers Band and Hi-Steppers, the Tigers came out strong and scored first on an 8-yard run then a 3-yard run, both by Jack Tyndall. The third quarter ended with the score Tigers 35, Mavericks 14.
The fourth quarter started with an 8-yard run by Jack Tyndall and the final Tigers touchdown was scored by Mateo Perez on a 3-yard run. The Tigers came out with a 49-14 score against the Mavericks.
Offensive Stats
The Tigers had a notable offensive performance, and as per the Hudl Stats, Jack Tyndall had 29 carries for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
Jaceton Gotta had 13 carries for 71 yards and Lawson Attaway had six carries for 24 yards. Also, Maher had 15 completions out of 19 attempts for 193 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Tigers’ offense accumulated a total of 503 yards (rushing yards 310 and passing yards 193).
In the Tigers receiving corps, Cooper Reid had six receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown. Nick Tyndall had two receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown. Jack Tyndall had three receptions for 39 yards, Bloomgren had one reception for 18 yards and one touchdown. Finally, Jack Tyndall had a total of 225 all-purpose yards.
Defensive Stats
The Tigers defense stepped up the entire game. They limited the Mavericks to a total of 70 yards rushing and 288 yards passing.
Case Hubbard had four tackles and two assists, Dylan Brasher had two tackles with seven assists and finally, Chris Gustafson had two tackles with six assists.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the Tigers will play San Antonio's Harlan High School at 7:30 p.m. at New Braunfels' Canyon High School for the UIL 6A D2 Region 4 - Area playoff game.
