SAN ANTONIO — The Wimberley High School Texans led 49-0 at halftime and wasted no time in putting away the Pearsall High School Mavericks (2-9) in a bi-district playoff game at Alamo Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Wimberley (9-2 overall) advances to the area round of playoffs and will face the Rockport Fulton High School Pirates (7-4 overall) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Warrior Stadium on the Tuloso-Midway High School campus. A win there will match Wimberley up with district rival Navarro High School (5-6 overall) or familiar foe Cuero High School (8-3 overall) in a regional semifinal on Thanksgiving Day or weekend.
Wimberley totaled 180 passing yards; quarterback Cody Stoever passed for 160 yards with four touchdowns and back-up quarterback Jackson Parker was two for two with a touchdown pass. Jace Morales had two touchdown receptions, Nolan Waida, Aiden Patek and Keith Cook each had a touchdown catch. The team totaled 211 yards rushing with four touchdowns. Ten different players carried the ball for the Texans. Benji Olmedo led with eight carries for 64 yards. Wesley Milam, Maverick Jacobs, Josh Belanger and Morales each carried the ball over the goal line for touchdowns. Jace Cutrona returned a kickoff 69 yards for a touchdown.
Defensively, Reid Wood had an interception and Josh Heugly recovered a Mavericks fumble. Bo Holman was five for five and Keith Cook was four for five in point after touchdown attempts.
