After the opening season loss to the Vandegrift High School Vipers, the Dripping Springs Tigers rallied in game two and defeated the San Antonio Wagner High School Thunderbirds 35-6 on Friday, Sept. 6.
The Tigers scored first on a 67-yard pass to wide receiver Cooper Reid from quarterback Maddox Maher.
The Tigers had several offensive weapons and they distributed the ball to Jack Tyndall, Merrick Bloomgren, Nick Tyndall and again to Reid all for touchdowns.
Maher completed nine out of 14 passes for 194 yards passing and four touchdowns; Jack Tyndall had 11 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown; Reid had three receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns; and Nick Tyndall had three receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown. Finally, Bloomgren had two receptions for 30 yards and one touchdown.
The Tiger offense was well balanced and kept the Thunderbirds defense on its heels. The Tigers racked up 347 yards of offense on 40 plays.
The Tigers’ defense was aggressive and only allowed the Thunderbirds 225 yards of offense (16 yards passing and 209 yards rushing). Clive Wahl had five tackles and eight assists, C. Gustafson had three tackles and 10 assists and Major Bettridge had three tackles and three assists.
“The team played tough against a quality team and really came out in the second half with a lot of energy,” said head coach Galen Zimmerman, adding that the team still has some areas to improve and has plenty of time to do it.
He stated that the support of the community is phenomenal and they love to support the kids in what they do.
The Tigers will next travel to Harker Heights High School to take on the Knights, currently 2-0, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13.
