Let's reject Chip Roy's extremism
I’m writing to express concern that Congressman Chip Roy’s stance on abortion is drastically out of step with his constituents.
Texas' draconian new anti-abortion laws have caused heartbreaking problems for women and families, and Texans don't like it: 70% to 80% of Texans think abortion should be available in some form.
Roy backed the passage of SB 8, which imposes harsh penalties on anyone helping a woman obtain an abortion. In Congress, he spearheaded a bill to take federal funding from colleges that make the abortion pill available to students, and another to overturn the FACE Act, which protects reproductive health centers from threats that interfere with their services.
Elected officials should reflect the will of their constituents, not impose their own fringe ideologies. Let's elect a representative for District 21 who will bring a more compassionate approach to this deeply personal and complex issue.
Deborah Chavez Buda A woman you say
A Woman You say …………….a Woman for PRESIDENT. We’ve never had a WOMAN PRESIDENT. This is America ===== the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Women are suppose to stay at home, have babies, cook and clean . The men go to work in the fields or in the office or factories, etc.
There’s a tiny problem with that picture. Women have been managing the household along with having babies, working in the fields, and also in the office and factory since our Country became an independent Nation.
Women had to fight long and hard for the Right to Vote, then managed ferrying airplanes across the Pond to England during WW II.
Today women in our good ol’ USA own and run Newspapers, factories, the US Currency, Hospitals, Computer facilities, etc, etc. One fourth of the Senate is run by Women Senators as is 30% of the House by Women Congresswomen.
Four years ago we elected a woman VP, the first woman to serve as VP of our Country. And she has done an amazing job.
Since January 2021 when Harris resigned her Senate seat to take over as Vice President of the United States she has been in contact with at least 150 foreign Heads of State, including China’s President XI. She has worked constantly to hold together a 50 country coalition of Global representatives with such challenges as Climate Change, NATO, WORLD HEALTH organizations, etc., etc.
As Vice President she has the winning vote to break a tie regarding legislation. Her winning vote has passed legislation that has made our lives a little less difficult.
Regarding our election of a Woman President, this event is way overdue. At present Italy, Iceland, Peru, and Mexico are among countries with a woman in charge. Also Russia with Catherin the Great.
But we here in America seem hesitant to let “a Woman” run the show, at least in the White House.
Perhaps it’s about time we did.
