WIMBERLEY — The Wimberley High School Texans football team took the opening kickoff against visiting Gonzales High School and on fourth and 15, settled for a 35-yard Bo Holman field goal on Friday, Oct. 25. The Texans secured the 59-10 win at the end.
The Apaches scored on their first possession for a 7-3 lead and extended the lead 10-3 with a field goal.
Wimberley quarterback Cody Stoever connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to Nolan Waida to tie it at 10-10, after the point after by Holman was good, with 28 seconds left in the first quarter.
The 10 points allowed in the first quarter for the Apaches would be all the Texans defense would give up. Reid Linneweber had a sack, Ty Thames had two sacks and Luke German recovered a Gonzales fumble. The Texans picked off three Apache passes, Jace Cutrona had two interceptions and Waida had an interception. Ty Thames had two sacks and Leinneweber had one.
The Texans have outscored opponents 349-119 this season.
While the defense stopped the Apaches for three quarters, Wimberley’s offense put another 49 points on the board for the 59-10 win.
Stoever passed for 262 yards with two touchdown passes to Jace Morales and the one to Waida tying the game.
Stoever also rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns and Benji Olmedo had 76 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Holman was eight for eight on point after touchdown attempts.
Wimberley 6-2 (4-0) travels to Smithville 0-8 (0-4) on Nov. 1 before the final game of the regular season on senior night against Lago Vista High School at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
