The visiting Wimberley High School Texans (7-2 overall, 5-0 district) had no trouble defeating the Smithville High School Tigers (0-9 overall, 0-5 district), a team with a new coach in the rebuilding process, on Friday, Nov. 1.
The Texans led 42-0 at the half, which allowed coaches to get a good look at several non-starters who added 14 points in the second half. Quarterbacks Cody Stoever, nine of 13 for 130 yards, and Jackson Parker, two of three for 69 yards, combined for touchdown passes to Ty Thames and Christian Sansalone.
The ground game racked up 279 yards, with six touchdowns. Stoever averaged 20 yards per carry and had one touchdown. Jace Cutrona, Nolan Waida and Maverick Jacobs each scored a touchdown and sophomore Josh Belanger had three carries for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Near the end of the game, Benji Olmedo could have scored on a run, but showed mercy and good sportsmanship by going down just before reaching the goal line. Defensively, Ivan Becken and Rhett Rosborough were credited with a sack each. Bo Holman was good on all eight of his point after touchdown kicks.
Wimberley has secured first place in 4A D2 District 13 and wraps up the regular season hosting Lago Vista High School 7-2 (4-1) on senior night at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
