Hays CISD teachers selected for Teacher Spotlight Award

Staff Report JOHNSON CITY — Rooted in community, Pedernales Electric Cooperative invests in educational programs and support for teachers and classrooms across the Texas Hill Country.

On Nov. 22, PEC announced the winners of its new Teacher Spotlight Award — intended to recognize the superb work teachers do in their classrooms and in their communities, according to a news release.

PEC members submitted online nominations for nearly 250 teachers and answered questions, including examples of how the nominees have gone above and beyond to make a difference in their students’ lives, exhibited a commitment to education and shown innovation in their teaching.

“Teachers are the foundation of every community and their work is inspiring,” said Kevyn Packer, PEC community outreach specialist.

“This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the educators across our service area who are making a positive impact and shaping the futures of Central Texas youth.

PEC is proud to thank these teachers for their service with gift baskets containing their classroom wish list items,” Packer said.

The following six teachers were selected for PEC’s Teacher Spotlight Award:

• Florinda Arevalos, a second grade bilingual teacher at Tom Green Elementary School, Hays CISD

• Elizabeth Coyle, a third grade math and science teacher at Spicewood Elementary School and Marble Falls High School swim team coach, Marble Falls ISD

• Geeta Erickson, a kindergarten teacher at C.C. Mason Elementary School, Leander ISD
