LWV launches GivingTuesday campaign

Staff Report HAYS COUNTY – This GivingTuesday, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Hays County is launching a focused fundraising campaign aimed at increasing community outreach and education efforts during the upcoming Texas legislative session.

GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement that began in 2012, will take place this year on Dec. 3 and LWV of Hays County will participate by raising funds to expand its programs, ensuring Texans' voices are heard by lawmakers while fostering greater civic engagement across the county.

This year, LWV of Hays County is prioritizing initiatives to educate residents about critical legislative processes and encourage participation in democratic decision-making, stated a news release.

The funds raised during the campaign will enable the organization to expand its outreach programs across the expansive and rapidly growing Hays County. These efforts include hosting community programs, providing accessible nonpartisan resources and empowering residents to engage effectively with state representatives on issues that impact their lives.

“We are excited to be part of the GivingTuesday movement as we work to increase community engagement and education across Hays County,” said Teresa Carbajal Ravet, spokesperson for LWV of Hays County. “This is a pivotal time for Texans to unite and make their voices heard in the legislative process. Together, we can ensure that every resident in our community feels informed, empowered and represented.”

LWV of Hays County has a longstanding commitment to promoting informed and active participation in government. Through past initiatives, the organization has successfully increased voter turnout, educated citizens on key policy issues and fostered constructive dialogues across diverse communities, the release continued.

With the support of GivingTuesday, it aims to reach even more residents, bridging gaps in civic participation and creating lasting change.

GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people to demonstrate generosity in ways that are meaningful to them, whether by volunteering time, making financial contributions, or amplifying causes through advocacy.

“GivingTuesday inspires people worldwide to embrace their power to drive progress on the issues they care about,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday.
