Replacing current District 5 Kyle City Council member Daniela Parsley is Marc McKinney after he won the runoff election with more than 50% of the votes on Dec. 14.
According to unofficial polling results, McKinney received 262 votes, or 64.38%, while his opponent Melissa Medina received 97, or 35.62%, of votes.
Previously, McKinney earned his spot in the run-off election after garnering 5,468 votes, or 36.32%, in the primary election on Nov. 5. His opponents, Courtney Goza and Medina had 4,072, or 27.05%, and 5,513 votes, or 36.62%, respectively.
McKinney moved to Kyle 10 years ago, stated the candidate’s website, and fell in love with not only the city, but the sense of community: “It’s the kind of community where, when you’re sick, your neighbors will bring soup to your door.”
With hopes to manage Kyle’s rapid growth, McKinney said that the city needs to use a price-driven control approach, which will allow the infrastructure to catch up with the growth.
He also plans to publish the agenda items after council meetings with the vote he made and why to provide better communication with community members, as “many citizens have lost trust in the city’s leaders. Clear, open communication can go a long way towards bridging that trust gap,” he said.
