Davenport wins over Wimberley

The Wimberley High School Lady Texans' basketball team hosted the Davenport High School Wolves, who extended their win streak to seven after a 60-42 win in 4A District 26 on Jan. 7 at Wimberley’s Lee Grisham gym.

The Lady Texans (19-6 overall; 1-2 district) valiant effort got to within five points in the third period before Davenport (19-6 overall; 3-0 district), who led the entire game, pulled away in the final period. Wimberley trailed by six points twice. It was 26-20 at the half and 41-35 at the end of the third period. Campbell Woodward was the leading scorer for Wimberley, with 17 points, followed by Jade Duncan, with 11 points, including three-nothing-but net three-point shots.

“I can’t say I normally hit those, but this game feel like I had to” Duncan said after the game, “It was a physical game and we really tried.”

The Wolves had a hot-handed threepoint shooter in Atahliah Richardson who put in six three-pointers.

“The three-pointers will usually even out,” head coach Matt Kirschner said. “The difference in the game is we got some wide-open looks, but just couldn’t hit and turned the ball over at crucial times and transition.”

Wimberley was five of ten at the free throw line. Reagan Olmer had six points, Lily Dela Rosa had four and Laney Hennessee and Addie Laney each had two.

Wimberley traveled to Canyon Lake High School and won 53-31 on Jan. 10. The Lady Texans will host Navarro High School at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.
