Wimberley ISD now has two groups geared to create opportunities to hear the voice of the community more broadly.
Following WISD’s adoption of its strategic plan in 2023, which includes a focus on strengthening community excellence, the district launched two groups to address critical issues impacting the students, teachers and community: the Ambassador Task Force and the Facility Needs Task Force. Both of these groups had their first meetings in September 2024.
The Ambassador Task Force is a group of WISD stakeholders who are interested in becoming deeply informed advocates for the needs of the students and staff, said WISD Communications Director Allen Bruggman.
“Our ambassadors can help expand our communication reach throughout our community. With detailed, regular access to updates on district programming, initiatives, challenges and progress, our ambassadors can assist in building credibility and trust within the community,” Bruggman explained. “The task force is also a way to foster community engagement, which is a key tenet of the district's strategic plan. The group can also serve as a mechanism for WISD to receive insights and feedback from a group of involved/connected stakeholders to help inform district decision-making.”
As for the Facility Needs Task Force, it is a group of stakeholders charged with working collaboratively to do the following:
• Analyze WISD facility needs information
• Prioritize identified needs
• Consider the potential fiscal impacts to addressing identified facility needs
• Create recommendations for WISD board consideration “Having a group of dedicated community members and campus staff serve on the Facility Needs Task Force ensures that the input and feedback of our community is gathered and honored when making facility planning decisions,” Bruggman said. “It's important to WISD to hear from the community and not just make facility decisions amongst the administrative leadership team.”
The Ambassador Task Force is open to any WISD stakeholder that is interested. The district hopes it continues to be a growing group.
The Facility Needs Task Force is composed of members recommended by the board of trustees and the superintendent, with the strategic aim to include a diverse representation of the WISD community and garner diverse perspectives, according to Bruggman. Additionally, WISD staff members were asked to participate, particularly those leading a program, department or campus that was determined to have significant facility needs.
