The Dripping Springs High School varsity girls basketball team lost its home game on Wednesday, Jan. 22, against Bowie High School (229 overall; 8-2 district) by a score of 33-62.

The Lady Tigers (9-20 overall; 2-8 district) never led in the game, but outscored the Bulldogs 11-6 in the second period and trailed 21-15 at the half. Bowie’s defense held Dripping Springs to 18 points in the second half, while putting 38 points on the board.

The Lady Tigers record is not indicative of the team’s willingness to win.

“We’re motivated by each other and it shows every day at practice and on the court. Every player is trying their hardest. You can see their love for basketball and the beauty of the game,” senior Abigail Robinson said after the loss. “We may have a height deficiency, but we’re going for the rebound. We all love each other and work hard for each other.”

Junior Bailey Rogers led the team with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers. Chaela Luelling had eight points, Rain Collins had seven points, Ella Beatty had four, Chloe Lightfoot had three and Abigail Robinson had two. Dripping Springs seniors are: Katie Newman, Layne Fields, Gracie Embry, Collins and Robinson.

The Lady Tigers have lost three in a row after a 73-27 win over Akins on Jan. 14. Dripping Springs’ season ends on the road when they play at Westlake at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
