SAN MARCOS — CHRISTUS Health celebrated the opening of its new urgent care in San Marcos Thursday, March 6.
Located at 1430 North IH-35, Suite 106, the new clinic will “see everything from bumps and scrapes, to flu and cold and aches and sprains. You name it, we see it,” said Director of Clinical Operations for CHRISTUS Health Kathleen Chomel.
Open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the new CHRISTUS Urgent Care Clinic offers five treatment rooms for individuals seeking care and has x-ray capabilities. The clinic also offers online registration and scheduling, which allows busy individuals to book without having to call.
According to Bob Honeycutt, president of the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa San Marcos Hospital, CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic has a way to help those who may be uninsured or have insurance that doesn’t cover their services.
“We have an arrangement with Hays County through a grant that we’re able to help. It helps offset the cost of taking care of those individuals that don’t have the opportunity for insurance or [people who are] underinsured,” said Honeycutt.
The urgent care offers the availability for those who may not have the time to wait for a primary care provider or may not have one.
“The resource is different in the sense that people can come here without having a primary care physician in [a] time of quick need, [such as] in the afternoon, where they’re really busy, but they can pop over [to the urgent care], where they might not be able to get into their primary care physician as quick as they feel they need to,” Honeycutt explained. “This gives them an opportunity to come over here and receive care.”
The goal of the clinic is to take care of a growing community, said Honeycutt.
“We want to continue to grow with the community,” he said. “We want to continue to grow with the area and provide opportunity for healthcare and be the healthcare choice for anybody that lives in San Marcos [and] along [the] IH-35 corridor.”
“We truly care about our patients. Patients are not a number. They’re our citizens; they’re our community and we value [them] and are blessed to be able to take care of those people,” Chomel concluded.
