YMCA of Austin facilities, which include Hays Communities and Springs Family in Hays County, have been closed until further notice. The list also includes the Bastrop YMCA, East Communities YMCA, Extend-A-Care YMCA, HNorth Austin YMCA, Northwest Family YMCA, Southwest Family YMCA, Springs Family YMCA and TownLake YMCA.
“Our goal is to protect the health of our members, program participants, staff and the community,” said president and CEO James Finck. “We’ll work closely with the city and county health officials to determine the timing and nature of how we can begin serving our community again.”
The YMCA has also canceled 10 spring break camps this week and suspended after school child care at more than 100 sites across Travis, Hays and Bastrop Counties until further notice, impacting nearly 5,000 children and families. Finck says the Y is talking with local officials about the possibility of hosting child care for first-responders and other essential personnel, but no plans have been confirmed.
“We are a relationship organization bringing people together – large numbers, from all backgrounds and circumstances creating personal connections,” Finck said. “Rest assured, we’re doing everything in our power to ensure that the Y will continue to be here for the community when we come out of this crisis.”
